One of my favorite activities I do with my class in November is to have them make a gratitude ABC book. Each day the students fill in a page of words and pictures of things that they are grateful for that starts with that letter. Then during morning meeting they go around and share one thing. It starts each day with an amazing sense of thankfulness for what they have.
I made a quick cover and then I just take 13 pages of art paper folded in half and stapled. Students can use whatever medium that they want to for the pages of their book. If they want to do something with watercolor then I have them paint on another piece of paper and when it is dry we glue it into the book. Students create with crayons, watercolors, markers, oil pastels or pencil drawings. We have had basic lessons with all of these mediums so students know how to use each of them.
